It’s a well-known fact that the Orange River irrigation area offers the very best conditions for growing pecan nuts. Our export quality pecan nuts are oversized, sweet and juicy. The orchard is certified organic by Ecocert.
We employ principles of permaculture and agroforestry in our pecan orchards: mulches of autumn leaves, chipped up pecan prunings and chop & drop mulch; diverse cover crops of sown legumes and natural veld grass; windrow compost and guano foliar sprays for nutrition and grazing in the off season by our Lowerland Rietskaap and small troupe of pigs.
When harvesting our extra large mammoth pecan cultivars, it’s only the best nuts that make it to your table. To achieve this, we harvest earlier when the weaker nuts are still in their green shells. We lose some of the yield this way but gain quality and a superior product in size, taste and nutrition.
We offer shelled mammoth halves, large halves and pecan pieces for baking. We only shell once a year (around June) and advise you to preorder as stocks are limited. Freshest is bestest but nuts keep really well if stored properly and refrigerated / frozen.
